Authors Guidelines for Articles

We welcome articles for inclusion in ReSource magazine and provide the following guidelines in order to speed up processing.

ARTICLES:

The Editor invites original, previously unpublished, submissions under the following categories:

Personal Development & Self Help
Life & Business Coaching
Leadership Skills
Business Development
NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming)
Hypnosis
Health & Wellbeing
Education & Training
Alternative Therapies
Spirituality
Financial and Money

If you have an idea for a feature or article, which does not fall into a category listed here, please contact us and we will be pleased to consider your proposal.

Articles can be:

Presentations of new research and ideas
Applications of work in the any area
Reviews or accounts of workshops and seminars
Case studies or client histories
Conceptual issues related to your field (e.g. philosophical, theoretical, and political)
Topical issues of interest.

Book reviews are also welcome.

The Author shall on submission, state that the material is original or if the material has been published previously, when and where this has occurred.

Articles written as advertorials cannot be considered for publication. Please see our Advertising Rate Card for applicable charges.

REFERENCES:

Reference in articles can be made to authors own or other referenced publications, including forthcoming publication of their books or brief information on how to 'find out more' about their work. The editor reserves the right to edit this information.

References must be included for all articles where reference is made to work produced and published by others. See HARVARD REFERENCING below.

AUTHOR DETAILS:

Include name, address and contact details of all authors including daytime telephone number and email address, and a brief bio (up to 150 words) and photo(s) where possible.

NUMBER OF WORDS:

Include a summary or abstract of no more than 150 words giving the key points of your article.
Total number of words should normally be between 2000 - 2500 for articles and features and 1000 words for short reports and reviews.
Articles of 3,000 words or more are unlikely to be published as a single piece; however, the author should structure the piece as two or three parts for publication.
ReSource will consider longer pieces (up to 12,000 words) for publication as standalone Special Research Reports or Monographs.

The maximum number of plain text words per page, using 10pt Times Roman Font in the publication, will be 900 approx. 'Pull Quotes', Pictures or diagrams will reduce this number.

Write in non-sexist and non-discriminatory language.

TEXT FORMAT:

Do not spend too much time laying out the body text in any specific way (unless already prepared) as this will generally be removed or adjusted for insertion into the columns on the page.

The normal presentation of text will Times New Roman 10pt.

Varying size fonts, bold titles, italicised, Bullet pointed text, etc., which you provide, will generally be followed.

Pages should be numbered.

SEPARATE TABLES / BOXES / FIGURES etc:

Please ensure that the location of these is clearly identified, e.g. as a figure 'x' in the text and on the separate item, if in a box, approximately where this should be positioned relative to the rest of the text.

Tables or text in separate panels will usually be reproduced as supplied. Attach tables and figures at the end of the article, indicating in the text where these should go.
Provide all material by email, remembering to include all necessary files.

SUBMISSION TO RESOURCE MAGAZINE:

We have Broadband service and can receive large files; however, other ISPs may have limits for your outgoing email size, in this case please either send as 2 or more emails, containing small files or write file to a CD or 3.5" Floppy and send to the address in the "Contact Us" section below.

Submit your article in MS Word for Windows or any other major word processing package or alternatively as plain text .txt or Rich Text Format .rtf. files.

Photos for use in articles, or of the author, should preferably be digital images at 300 dpi (12 d/mm) absolute minimum at 100% size. jpg files should be avoided if possible but if offered they should be created using the highest quality setting available on your program.

Photo images for author bios will be 85mm x 55mm maximum.

Please send a Hard Copy of the article, for reference purposes, in 12 point font with double spacing, to the address below.

The editor has sole responsibility for the inclusion of articles in the magazine and submission of an article is no guarantee of inclusion. The editor also retains responsibility for making any changes necessary to ensure all materials comply with legal and other publishing requirements.

COPYRIGHT OF ARTICLES:

In view of the fact that Authors retain the copyright to Articles published in 'resource' magazine, it is important for us to make sure that we only publish authorised submissions. When we decide to publish an article we will write to you by email, requesting a reply to the email, stating that "resource magazine (Porto Publishing) are authorised to publish the specified article"

Articles published in the magazine may also be made available online at the ReSource Magazine website. Articles may not be published in any other form, electronically or otherwise, until a period of 16 weeks has elapsed from the original stated date of Publication in ReSource Magazine.

HARVARD REFERENCING:

To avoid the possibility of accusations of plagiarism for either the Author or the Publisher, proper referencing of sources for quoted works must be followed to comply with copyright legislation.

References should be presented in Harvard Style See: http://www.shef.ac.uk/library/libdocs/hsl-dvc1.html

ReSource magazine standard format is to show all outside sources to which you have referred at the end of your piece in an alphabetical list with the following information.

Reference Format:
1. name/s of author/s
2. date of publication
3. title of publication
4. place of publication
5. publisher / organisation
6. edition, if other than first
7. type of medium (
8. name or site address on internet (if applicable)
9. date item retrieved

Referencing within the Body of the Text:

Include a reference so that the reader can source the material easily.

The following is an example from within the text.

Bandler and Grinder, in Frogs into Princes say of systemic change:

"Everything is going to interact in a system.." Bandler and Grinder (1979: p.133)

Note: If the quote is sourced from the internet and there is no page number, include the date (Month/Year) of access, as pages may change, be removed or relocated..
